Mark joined Wet-seal in April 2013 after a successful banking career in Australia and the UK, including Westpac and Clydesdale Bank in London. Prior to joining Wet-seal, Mark spent 2 years as Head of Commercial & Business Banking for Bankwest, after 9 years with the organisation in a number of Regional and State Manager roles.
Relocating to idyllic Coffs Harbour on the NSW north coast was certainly an added bonus in joining the Wet-seal team, but it was “the people and knowing we have the best waterproofing system in the market” that really clinched the deal.
When asked how his extensive corporate experience lends itself to running a smaller, more nimble, business like Wet-seal, Mark is philosophical about his experiences.
“Being in an executive role with a financial institution during the GFC taught me more about managing my own line of business and team than the previous 20 years’ experience combined.”
“In particular, it gave me an even greater sense of how important it is to form deep relationships with customers that are based on mutual respect and the importance of achieving success through others”
Mark’s secret to business success is to look ahead; always keep an eye on where you want to go, rather than just the day-to-day activities occupying your time right now. It’s this longer-term focus he encourages the entire team at Wet-seal to keep in mind as they continue to grow a successful franchise network.
